As an entrepreneur who is interested in opening a dispensary in Ohio it is important to know the current market size.  As a marijuana consumer it is important to know that Ohio currently only allows registered Ohio medical marijuana patients to purchase from licensed dispensary sin the state. Lobbyists and advocates continue to push for adult use cannabis legalization in Ohio. Because the state is somewhat conservative, the move toward legalization has been slow.

House Bill 523, effective on September 8, 2016, legalizes medical marijuana in Ohio. The Ohio Medical Marijuana Control Program (MMCP) will allow people with certain medical conditions, upon the recommendation of an Ohio-licensed physician certified by the State Medical Board, to purchase and use medical marijuana.
